Help make a world of good this Giving Tuesday

December 1, 2015 G Adventures

On a day designed to celebrate giving around the world, G Adventures is taking a moment to reflect on the overwhelming generosity bestowed upon its non-profit organization, the Planeterra Foundation.

Since the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley on April 25, giving has been a constant theme in 2015 at G Adventures. From the moment the news reached the outside world, the G Adventures community knew that it had to do whatever it could to aid those who have welcomed us into their homes and hearts for years. Within two days of the initial appeal, our network of travellers and friends raised over CAD $100,000 for relief efforts. By campaign’s end, that total had risen to CAD $220,000. Our community’s eagerness to help rebuild Nepal has been humbling, to say the least.

On September 29, G Adventures hosted 500 travellers, partners, and members of the media in celebration of our 25th anniversary. Among the night’s many announcements was the launch of a five-year project spearheaded by Planeterra: the 50 in 5 campaign. This ambitious initiative will assist in the creation of 50 new social enterprise and community development projects in 35 countries in five years, impacting the lives of over 30,000 people. By 2020, the 50 in 5 campaign will raise CAD $5 million to support new, self-sustaining businesses that provide services or experiences to G Adventures travellers.

From the start, the [50 in 5 campaign was enthusiastically embraced by G Adventures’ business partners. Sustaining Supporter Live Out There, Lead Supporter Deloitte, and Major Supporter Elie Nour Group have all committed their support for the duration of the campaign. Major Supporters STA Travel and Tourism Authority of Thailand, along with Contributing Supporters Hi Tours and Birch Hill, will provide significant seed investments for the first projects created under the 50 in 5 banner. Over 125 other longstanding suppliers responded to our call, raising initial fundraising to the CAD $500,000 mark.

G Adventures wants to extend a special thank-you to everyone who donated so generously to Planeterra this year. Your support helps change the lives of at-risk youth, marginalized women, and disadvantaged communities all over the world. If you’re thinking about giving today – or at any time throughout the holidays – please consider making a donation towards the 50 in 5 campaign. We’re still CAD $100,000 shy of our year-end fundraising target. A donation of any size will help us get there — click here to donate.

Thank you for your time and generosity. Together, we can make a world of good.
