Visual Adventure: Mostar

January 7, 2016 Greg Snell

When most people hear the word Bosnia, they may primarily think of conflict, and rightfully so. Not even 20 years ago, there was a brutal war waging in Central–East Europe that claimed thousands of innocent lives and destroyed families throughout the entire former Yugoslavia. Despite this challenging past, there is much more to present day Bosnia and Herzegovina than just the stories of war, even though they may be hard to avoid.

I want to tell another story, the story of the city of Mostar as seen through a few modest images taken during a recent trip last September. Mostar sits in southwestern Bosnia and has long been a place of diversity. It has been home to people of varying faiths and beliefs for countless centuries and is still shared by those who may not see eye to eye yet presently live in peace.

Mostar also happens to be situated in a beautiful natural landscape with amazing rivers and valleys that lead to hidden archaeological gems and stunning waterfalls. The city has kind, inviting people who live amongst and in wonderful old streets and buildings. There is much to see and do, and hopefully the following photos give you an idea.
