PLANET Her

March 8, 2016 G Adventures

In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2016, G Adventures is proud to launch a new campaign that will help change the lives of women around world. The PLANET Her campaign will run from March 8 to April 10, 2016, with the goal of raising USD $25,000 for three new G Adventures for Good social initiatives.

To kick off the campaign, G Adventures will be hosting a PLANET Her photography exhibit in Berlin. The exhibit showcases powerful images of women from countries around the world and illustrates how travel is changing their lives for the better. Featuring photographs by Wanderers-in-Residence Daniel Noll and Audrey Scott, the Berlin-based award-winning writers and storytellers of Uncornered Market, exhibit-goers can expect to see images from Haiti, Burma and Tajikistan amongst others.

Opening night is March 8 and the exhibit runs until March 13, 2016. It’s no coincidence that the exhibit runs at the same time as the world’s leading travel trade show, ITB, so if you’re in Berlin for ITB, make sure you don’t miss this exhibit.

During the PLANET Her kickoff event at the gallery, three new G Adventures for Good projects will be announced. But since we’re really bad at keeping secrets, here’s a sneak peek: The new projects are located in Australia, Belize, and Morocco, and all of them empower local women to redefine their roles in society.

Café Chloe

The first new project is Café Chloe in Tully, Australia. Developed in partnership project with Ingan Tours, the café is located in a repurposed railway station and serves a dual purpose; it’s both a vocational training café and a cultural arts centre for Aboriginal women and youth. The café is run entirely by the Janbanbarra Jirrbal community, who have lived in the Tully region for centuries.

Belize Pottery Cooperative

Located in San Antonio and managed by group of Mayan women, the Belize Pottery Cooperative is a space to showcase their handicrafts. The space includes a small shop and an outdoor workshop. The cooperative provides local women with a source of income and helps keep Mayan traditions alive and strong in the community.

Morocco Community Lunch

And last but certainly not least, the third G Adventures for Good project that will focus on improving women’s lives through travel is located in Morocco. The Morocco Community Lunch initiative is a lunch-and-learn session with a twist. The project treats travellers to a traditional Moroccan meal and a basic tutorial of the Arabic language while assisting the long-term development of job training, health and education programs for over 700 rural women and children.
