Instagrams of the Week: Natural wonders of Brazil

April 28, 2016 Mark Bonington

Brazil lures thousands of travellers every year with the promise of Carnival, street parties and sporting events. But in one of the largest countries in the world, nature’s gifts are often just a trek away; roaring waterfalls, secluded islands and more animals than you could count.

Take a look at what our travellers found when they stepped out to experience Brazil’s wilder side.

@soul.za captures a moment of calm over the Atlantic Ocean next to Brazil’s capital of Rio de Janeiro.

Two curious toucans peer down at @jesseniagonzalez. In some species of toucan, the colourful bill can measure more than half the length of the bird’s entire body.

Travel blogger @gregorsnell watches the first light of the new day break over the island of Ilha Grande.

Traveller @rkope finds a hidden waterfall in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest. The Amazon is the world’s largest rainforest and covers roughly 40% of the South American continent.

The Iguassu Falls sit on the border between Argentina and Brazil, stretching for a total width of 2.7km (1.7 mi). Here they are in all their roaring glory, snapped by traveller @lareineloulou.
