Our 10 most popular blog posts of 2017

December 27, 2017

From travel selfies to adventure cats, these are the 10 blog posts that you read the most in 2017:

1. Adventure Unfiltered: Failed selfies

In summer 2017, we launched our Adventure Unfiltered contest, for which we asked you to provide us with your best bad vacation photos — and boy, did you deliver: over the course of a month and a half, we got more than 20,000 of your messy, awkward, hilarious snaps from abroad. Jenna Furgiuele from Mississauga, Ontario, won our contest with her photo of a waxing mishap in Vietnam, but you seemed to love our blog compilation of failed selfies quite a bit — and, frankly, we can see why.

This year marked Canada's 150th birthday, which meant a variety of celebrations across the country. Here, we commemorated Canada Day with a coast-to-coast look at some particularly idiosyncratic Canadian slang — which, depending on where you're from, you might not have actually known was a thing! Here's a sneak peek: In Saskatchewan, one of Canada's prairie provinces, you might hear a hooded sweatshirt referred to as a "bunny hug." Click here to learn more.

3. 25 amazing gifts for travellers

Our holiday gift guide was a huge hit, but there's no reason you can't consult it year-round: it's a great resource for gifts for your more wanderlusty friends, whether they're active travellers, leisurely wanderers, or if they're hitting the road with a couple of kids in tow. Here it is.

Spain is a foodie haven, but this post about the country's famed rice dish proved particularly popular among our readers this year. Not sure if you're interested in giving it a read? Watch the video above — it just might get your mouth watering.

6. Meet Bolt and Keel, Canada’s adventure cats

Bolt and Keel aren't afraid of adventure — even when it's cold out.

The great outdoors + two adorable travelling cats = a winning formula for one of our most popular blog posts of the year.

7. Haggling in Morocco 101

One of the greatest things about visiting Morocco is checking out its vibrant souks, the markets that are interspersed throughout the country. But naming your price at the markets' stalls can be an intimidating affair. Luckily, travel writer Bert Archer provided some top tips for navigating these encounters earlier this year.
