Share train carriages with locals, overnight in a Mongolian ger and in a cozy Russian homestay. DAY 1 BEIJING Arrive at any time. DAYS 2-3 BEIJING Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Walk along the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Opt to see an acrobatics or kung fu show, visit the Temple of Heaven or Lama Temple, or enjoy a bicycle tour around the city. DAY 4 CHINA-MONGOLIA RAILWAY Ride the rails through China and into Mongolia. Watch as the landscape changes and make friends with neighbours. DAYS 5-7 ULAANBAATAR/TERELJ NP Take a guided tour of the Gandan Monastery and Bogd Khan Palace. Visit the WWII monument on Zaisan Hill. Opt to check out a local cultural show or the Chinggis Beer Hall. Travel to Terelj National Park and spend two nights in a ger camp. ( 1B, 1L, 2D ) DAYS 8-9 TRANS-MONGOLIAN RAILWAY Enjoy two nights onboard the train and take in the scenery while travelling from Mongolia into Siberia, Russia. ( 1B ) DAYS 10-11 IRKUTSK/LAKE BAIKAL Travel to Listvyanka and opt to visit Baikal Limnological Museum, enjoy a 'banya' (Russian sauna), or go for a boat ride on the lake. Learn more about local life with a homestay. Take a guided tour of Irkutsk, the 'Paris of Siberia'. ( 1B, 1D ) DAYS 12-13 TRANS-SIBERIAN RAILWAY Embark on a 48hr train ride from Irkutsk to Yekaterinburg. Drink with locals in the dining car, buy homemade food on the platform from babushkas (Russian grandmothers), read, relax, play cards, meet your fellow passengers, watch the taiga forests go by – this is what the experience is all about! DAY 14 YEKATERINBURG Enjoy a guided tour of Yekaterinburg, including the Church of All Saints on Spilled Blood and the Black Tulip monument. ( 1B ) DAY 15 TRANS-URAL RAILWAY Cross from Asia to Europe on this 24hr train from Yekaterinburg to Moscow.
