Experience the Ganges
Stretching from the Himalayas all the way to the
Bay of Bengal, the Ganges is central to life in India
in virtually every sense. Sacred to Hindus and
depended upon by millions of people for trade, its
fertile shores helped spawn some of history's
proudest empires. Our Ganges riverboat program
brings the beauty and majesty of the river and its
surrounding communities to life. Step aboard and
discover India's story straight from the source.
Tradition comes alive
The rural village of Matiari is famed for its long tradition of
brass-working. On our stop here, you'll meet some of the
artisans who keep that tradition alive today, and get to
watch them beat out, shape, engrave, and polish brass
water pots by hand.
Explore the Temple City
In Kalna, you'll swap the boat for a rickshaw and travel to
the gorgeous 108 Shiva Temple Complex, an engineering
marvel of 108 temples that stand in two concentric circles.
For the full eff ect, stand in the centre of the complex and
admire the incredible sight.
Roots of the Taj
The historic city of Rajmahal is home to dozens of ruined
palaces, forts, and mosques reclaimed by nature. It's also
the childhood home of Shah Jehan, the fi fth Mughal
Emperor and builder of the Taj Mahal and one of India's
greatest champions of architecture. As you'll see, he had
plenty to be inspired by here.
