Fuel for Your Adventure

Making sure you have the right fuel for your Active adventure is essential to ensuring you have the best possible time. There’s nothing worse than not feeling your very best when you’re out on the road.

Active tours are about getting the most out of the experience and pushing yourself to new limits while having the time of your life. What you don’t want is to have a day or two when you feel achy, tired, and not all there.

That’s why it’s so important to have a nutritional plan in place for your adventure and while on tour, to make sure you’re not skipping any meals and you’re drinking lots of water.

Don't get caught hungry when you're out on the road.

Cuisine differs from region to region, and one of the best parts of any G Adventures tour is experiencing your destination’s local food. However, there are certain key foods that you should make sure you incorporate into your diet before, during, and after your Active adventure. Whether you’re hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, or doing all three, an Active tour will be one of the most vigorous stretches in your year. It’s a good idea to come prepared and be nutritionally sound before you get to the airport. By loading up on carbohydrates a few weeks in advance of your tour, you’ll be ready to join the group running, biking, or rafting with the best of them.

During your Active tour, it’s extremely important to manage your water intake. Your water bottle is your best friend. Having a carabineer attached to your water bottle is a great way to secure it and always have it ready. Mixing a crystalized juice packet into your water is never a bad idea, either, especially when you need thatlittle extra kick.

Foods like bananas, berries, brown rice, energy bars, and yogurt are great sources of carbohydrates when you’re on the go. Make sure you carry a few of these items with you each day.

After your Active adventure, it’s important to eat foods that will help with your recovery. Some great recovery foods include cereal, dried cherries, eggs, salmon, and turmeric. Try to eat some of these after a day of intense activity and especially when you return home.
