On April 22, communities around the world will observe Earth Day, by celebrating all the natural wonder our planet has to offer, and reflecting on the environmental risks, threats, and challenges the world's citizens have yet to overcome. In the week leading up to April 22, the G Adventures blog will be looking at how responsible travel can help make the world a better place. Here, a closer look at the planet's ocean plastic problem.
At G Adventures, we believe that responsible travel can help make the world a better place — and this week, as we lead up to Earth Day, we’re celebrating the ways that travel can help make the planet a little bit greener. But we know that there are ways that we can all help improve the environmental health of the planet in our day to day lives, as well — such as, for instance, reducing our use of plastics. Plastic is a major source of pollution, and is particularly troubling to our oceans, which contain trillions of tiny pieces of plastic. This puts the health of the oceans themselves at risk, not to mention the many plants and animals that live within and around them.
