Instagrams of the Week: Gold

October 2, 2015 Mark Bonington

Since before recorded history humans have been fascinated by gold. The metal’s qualities of timelessness, purity and strength have entered into many cultures and formed symbolic traditions which continue to this day.

But look around and you can see the beauty of that yellow hue all over the world. Whether on the banks or the Danube or the plains of the Serengeti, enjoy this roundup of golden regrams from our travellers.

A line of golden Buddhas in Bangkok's Wat Pho temple. This world famous complex is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage, which is still practised there. Thanks to traveller @cattersrees for this pic.

A lioness sleeps soundly in the branches of an acacia tree to escape the hot Serengeti sun. Fantastic regram from our own @jeffreygarriock.

Traveller @maxlavoieee captures the Hungarian Parliament Building on the banks of the Danube. This popular architectural attraction is the largest building in Hungary and the tallest in Budapest.

@agpel explores the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. Possibly founded as early as 312 BC, this world-renowned archeological site is also known as the “Rose City”. Petra became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
