Aries (March 21-April 19)

You’re known for your loyalty, Aries, and this might extend to your travel habits: you tend to revisit places you already know you’ll like, always discovering something new, but sticking mainly to well-trod territory. This year, break the habit! Consider a trip to Portugal: If you’ve already been to (and love) Italy, France, Spain or Greece, Portugal is a natural next step — it’s perfect for lovers of delicious Mediterranean food, long, sunny days, beautiful beaches, unique architecture, rich history…and more.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Taurses are extremely tactile earth signs, which means you often find yourself ruled by — and drawn to — things that are particularly exciting to your five senses. You love bright colours, bold flavours, and immersive, hands-on experiences. And you tend to gravitate towards situations where you find yourself surrounded by warmth and love. Because of this, Taurus, we think 2018 is the year for a trip to Morocco! The country’s vibrant souks, fragrant foods, and warm sun will surely have you falling in love with the region (and perhaps considering a visit back).

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Routine is not your friend, Gemini: you’re drawn to people, situations, and experiences that are — for lack of a better word — a bit volatile (but in a good way!). You like to shake things up, and you’re very comfortable being on your toes — and on the edge of your seat: your biggest strength, many would say, is your ability to make the most of any situation, no matter what life throws at you. For that reason, why not try a trip to Colombia? Your versatility will make it easy for you to weather the country’s extremes, from the sometimes-chilly elevation of Bogota to the sweltering seaside of Santa Marta.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Many consider Cancerians to be the most sensitive sign, and this is often true: when you feel things, you feel them deeply and never fleetingly. You prefer making decisions with your gut — or better yet, your heart — over your head, and this year, that will continue to pay off more often than it doesn’t. When choosing where to travel next, consider using this strategy; it’ll lead you where you’re meant to go. That said, if you’re not quite so willing to take that plunge, we suggest a journey to Hawaii. You already know (in your head) that it’ll be a great trip — who doesn’t like Hawaii? — but you might feel in your heart that there’s more to the islands than sand and surf (trust us — your heart is on to something).

Leo (July 23-August 22)

No sign loves taking a trip quite like Leo. And few do quite as well meeting other people on the road: you’re naturally confident, gregarious and outgoing, and we’d guess you already have a wide network of friends across the globe that you’d like to get out and visit with this year. But while you could go just about anywhere in the world and find (or make!) a friend, 2018 is your year to set off for Egypt. You’ll love meeting the locals and seeing the sights — and since the ancient Egyptians worshipped cats, you might just feel right at home.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

You’re a worrier, Virgo: you have a highly analytical mind, and you’re more comfortable as a bystander than you are being the centre of attention. These traits and considerations have, in the past, governed how you travel: you gravitate towards busy city centres and areas with a rich history and bustling culture, and shy away from secluded, remote retreats and more meditative getaways. Keep this up in 2018 with a trip to Sri Lanka. Feel like part of the crowd in the hustle and bustle of Colombo, while keeping your mind active and engaged at the country’s many fascinating historical sites. (And don’t forget to tickle your tastebuds: Sri Lankan cuisine is some of the world’s most flavourful — and most delicious.)

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Life is about evenness for you, Libra; you’re most comfortable with a bit of hot and a bit of cold; a bit of light and a bit of dark; a bit of activity and a bit of downtime — frankly, you seldom (if ever) take one without the other. There’s a reason why your friends turn to you as a mediator! To satisfy your need for equilibrium, book a ticket to Bolivia. From its mountainous peaks to flat, sprawling south flats; cold climes to warm beaches; alpacas to llamas (okay, okay, that’s a stretch), you’ll leave your trip feeling fully recharged and fully balanced.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Scorpios have extremely distinct, unique personalities and ways of expressing themselves — which means that, sometimes, you have found yourself being misunderstood, misinterpreted, or disregarded altogether. Ironically, you have often chosen your travel destinations the same way, opting for well-trod locales and overlooking lesser-known places — or, at least, places where most of your friends haven’t been. Change it up this year, Scorpio, by becoming the first one in your social circle to travel to Kyrgyzstan. You’ll love getting to know the Central Asian country’s history, culture, architecture and landscapes — and you’ll love telling everyone back home about it even more.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

When it comes to adventurous signs, you’re at the top of the list, Sagittarius. You’ve never been afraid to try a new food or summit a new peak — and you’re spontaneous, to boot, which means you’re often found hitting the open road for adventures unknown on the spur of the moment. So you’ll want to try something out of the ordinary in 2018, like Oman. The Middle Eastern sultanate is all beautiful, vast deserts, majestic palaces, canyoning-ready wadis and turtles (yes, turtles). There’s something new and unexpected around every corner — which is right up your alley.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

For better or worse, Capricorn, you’re all business: when it comes to decision-making, you pick your head over your heart, and sentimentality is rare. Taking time off is rare, too — you’re a real workhorse (or, dare we say, work-goat?), and it’s not unusual to find you sneaking away from the pool to answer an email or two. But getting away from it all doesn’t have to mean unplugging and sitting in silence — you need to keep busy on holiday, which means you’ll feel right at home in The Baltics. What are The Baltics, you ask? Our point exactly: you’ll spend so much time learning about these seaside paradises, we’re willing to wager you might even forget about your inbox for a while.

Aquarius (January 20 to February 18)

If your friends could describe you in one word, most of them would say open-minded (and then they’d ask if that counts as one word). You, on the other hand, would describe yourself as someone who puts high value on communication. A trip to Uganda in 2018 makes sense for you, but not just because it’ll satisfy your Aquarian need for wide open spaces: you’ll also get the chance to get up close and personal with the country’s fascinating gorillas. Sure, you won’t get to actually talk to one, but these fascinating animals are hugely communicative with one another — which is something you’ll love seeing. Plus, it’s not likely you’ll make eye contact with one and not feel that something passes between you and the magnificent beast.

Pisces (February 19 to March 20)

You contain multitudes, Pisces — well, if you consider two sides to be multitudinous. Duality appeals to you strongly, so your travels often find you drawn towards places with complicated, complex histories, cultural traditions, weather patterns, and even landscapes. You’re also a huge animal lover. Block off some time on your calendar this year for a visit to Borneo, the geographic region comprising several individual states and countries. It’ll satisfy your need to experience a whole bunch of stuff at once — and you’ll surely see some fascinating fauna, to boot.
