Visual Adventure: Vancouver

May 30, 2014 Cynthia Connell

A perfect mix of urbanity and nature, Vancouver has been rated amongst the top cities in the world to live, and a few days here will surely show any visitor why.

The perfect day to showcase Vancouver begins with a mocha or latte from one of many local coffee shops, followed by a stroll on the Seawall —a 22km (14m) path that loops around the perimeter of Stanley Park, one of Canada’s largest urban parks. You may even spot a sea otter or, on a rare occasion, an orca whale that has strayed into the Burrard inlet. Head over to Granville Island to have lunch and shop at the market, which is full of fresh local produce and home to many local artist studios.

Hungry after all the exploring? A culinary highlight in Vancouver is undoubtedly sushi, with an estimated 223 restaurants in the city. And in the evening, with a bit of luck you may be able to cheer on the Canucks, the city’s NHL hockey team, or perhaps see a BC Lions football game at one of the downtown stadiums.

West Coasters move at a slower pace than the rest of Canada, so be sure to take your time exploring – and, in a city famous for rain, be sure to bring your umbrella, just in case, although you shouldn’t let a downpour keep you from the outdoors.
