Instagrams of the Week: Mountains

September 11, 2015 Mark Bonington

Formed through tectonic movements and volcanic eruptions over millions of years, mountains are some of the most powerful and majestic sights our planet has to offer.

Whether illuminated by the last light of the sun or blazing in mid-day glory, these natural wonders hold the fascination of both shutterbugs and travellers alike. It comes as no surprise then that the G Adventures Instagram community has lots to share. Check out this collection of regrams from around the world.

Fair warning: All these images are guaranteed to make you want to get your climbing kit out.

The small village of Imlil, nestled high in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. It stands 1,740m (5,710 ft) above sea level and is used as a base for travellers attempting to climb Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Thanks to traveller @clarissap83 for this superb shot!

The Towers of Torres Del Paine National Park in Patagonia, Chile. The majesty of this breathtaking landscape is wonderfully captured here by #gadv traveller @marinpackerphotography.

A last glimpse of Tanzanian sun. Snapped by @peeyud on day 2 of their hike up Kilimanjaro!

Mount Emei, China. Located in the Sichuan Province, it is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China. The first Buddhist temple to be built in China was erected upon Emei’s slopes, in the 1st century CE. The site now holds a total of seventy six monasteries.
