International Women’s Day: Women in Tourism

March 8, 2015 Daniel Sendecki

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the progress we have made, while promoting the advancement we continue to work toward. Tourism is one of the global industries in which women play an enormous role, representing between 60 and 70 per cent of its employment. As travellers and global citizens, it is important to understand how traveling sustainably can benefit the lives of women around the world.

The Planeterra Foundation, an organization founded by G Adventures to support sustainable social and environmental solutions in destinations travellers love to visit, knows first-hand how the travel and tourism industries benefit women worldwide. To help the Planeterra and G Adventures honour International Women’s Day, graphic design student Greer Mullin created an infographic that illustrates the inequality many women in developing countries face in the tourism industry—and the hope they have for a better tomorrow.
