Instagrams of the Week: Highlights from Southern Africa

May 27, 2016 Mark Bonington

The southernmost region of Africa holds some of the county’s most spectacular sights. With a wide diversity of both eco-regions and cultures, Southern Africa offers wildlife, natural wonders and sprawling cities to tempt those with an excess of wanderlust.

Straight from our traveller’s Instagram accounts, scroll down and see five reasons why this part of Africa will entrance you with every visit.

A herd of zebra take a drink in Kruger National Park, just one of the many species to be found there. Each set of stripes on a zebra are as unique as fingerprints on humans. Thanks to traveller @bpenfieldj for this pic!

@cordnerphoto snaps the surreal landscape of Deadvlei in the Namib Desert. The skeletons of the trees here have been scorched black by the sun, having died 600-700 years ago.

A lion basks in the sun near the Okavango Delta in Botswana, spotted by @cianmaher92. Living together in prides, male lions can command territories of over 259 square kilometres (100 sq mi).

The view from the top of Table Mountain is breathtaking and well worth the hike! Here it is with the city of Cape Town spread out below, courtesy of @kreidstar.

The Victoria Falls at sunset, as seen by @chriskiddphoto. For sheer natural beauty, it doesn’t get much better than this.
